Living and working in a city of London we are fortunate to have so much green space around us. It's invigorating running outside with the wind through one's hair, listening to the birds tweeting and the trees whispering to one another, breathing in the local aromas of an Indian restaurant, watching and listening to the huge crane at the construction site lifting, carrying and swinging, hearing the District tube line rumble past... this is what a local child experiences day to day. At Jenniflowers we love taking our children on local excursions as much as we can.

The 'Special' Park
A lovely local park with a variety of fun climbing, swinging and balancing apparatus, and rolling hills. The children named it.

Rugby in the Park
The 'Normal' Park
Sometimes we hold our rugby class in the park,
far more realistic to the actual game!
We usually play rugby in our nursery annex hall.
A park of discovery ... behind the shrubbery, up the trees
and below the leaves! What can we find?
(Yes, the children named this park too!)

Visiting our local tube station > watching the tubes come in, counting the passengers, watching the traffic light system they use,
seeing the tube staff in uniforms helping all kinds of people.

Library > The love of reading is instilled early on in life... and especially in this day and age where children (and adults) do much of their reading on a tablet/phone screen of some sort. We encourage book reading at Jenniflowers and have a vast library of books of all shapes and sizes, textures and subject matter. We have an account at our local library where our children can choose books every week for us to read back at Jenniflowers. We enjoy spending (quiet) time here... reading and spending time together... it's good for children to have this peaceful, chilled time. They know to talk softly when they visit, they make us very proud with their good listening!

We have been following what's been happening at the construction site across the road from pre-school for over a year now... it's so exciting and we have seen so many changes. So much learning goes on here - about transport vehicles (diggers and cranes and cement mixers), lifting and carrying schemas which we emulate in our activities in our own sand play... pretending to be a crane one day, and a digger the next! Exciting and exhilarating to watch a building grow in front of us!

And then,
amidst all the thrill
and excitement,
our little ones needs to rest... taking it all in and absorbing
our environment.
Quietly.
